Syl's Alpacas

Syl's Alpacas

Roxy Belle Syl came into posession of 2 very sweet alpacas in May of 2003. Their names are Roxie, and Belle.

Syl and Wendy borrowed Andrea's truck and made a trip down to Chehalis to pick the girls up, stopping at Olympia on the way to pick up Wendy's new baby goats. The trip down was uneventful. But when we got down there, we discovered that Andrea had lent us a truck with a leaking tire. Fortunately Syl has AAA.

While waiting for the nice AAA man, Syl, Wendy and Deb, who was boarding the alpacas, loaded the friendly girls into the truck. This is not as easy as it sounds. You try convincing a 150 lb alpaca that it wants to go into a deep dark cave, that is so short that it won't be able to stand up straight.

Once they were in, they didn't seem to mind so much. And they soon settled down. Just in time for the fix-it man to change the tire.

Then homeward bound... Syl and Wendy in the front with Belle, Roxie, and Sierra and Constance (goats) in the back. After a 2 hour trip, Belle and Roxie had finally arrived at their temporary home. With the truck backed up to the gate, it was time to coax the girls out. Roxie had a halter on, so Syl hooked on a lead and tried to coax Roxie out. Evidently Roxie had grown fond of her new accomodations in the back of the truck and was reluctant to come out. But eventually she decided to make the leap (literally) and out she popped. Not to be out done, Belle (without a halter or lead) came flying out the back. She must have hit the ground 30 feet past the back of the tail gait, where she landed not so gracefully, but quickly picked herself up, as if nothing had happened.

Fortunately, Belle was all too happy to follow Roxie (led by Ron, who would be boarding the girls) into the pasture that was to become their new home.
